Before we answer that question, think of how great and big God is that even a 1.5 mile tornado pails in comparison to Him! He holds the Universe in His hand, and how small is 1.5 miles compared to galaxies that stretch millions of light-years? The first thing to remember is:
When I saw how devastating last night’s storm across the southeast was, I could only think of God’s wrath being infinitely greater than any storm or catastrophe could ever be. And to think that Jesus bore God’s wrath on our behalf!! I’m completely short of words (and for those that know me understand how crazy that is). The second thing to remember is:
These two concepts should be enough, but I’ll take it one step further. When bad things happen we, as the bride of Christ, have the opportunity to be His hands and feet! We get to show God’s compassion on a personal level even to those who were previously cold-hearted toward God. The third thing to remember is:
Hopefully by now you know the answer to the first question. It’s not about us at all! If we Christians can remember God’s Great Sovereignty, that the worst (sin) has been conquered by Jesus, and that we should show God’s compassion toward others in their time of need - HOW CAN YOU NOT WORSHIP HIM???!! When we focus on who God is and our purpose as His children, we can worship Him in the midst of the storm.
***UPDATE: I want to make sure that readers understand that this it not a comprehensive restoration process for someone who has experienced trauma firsthand. It is rather a reminder for believers who see events like Japan’s Earthquake, or Alabama’s Storms to worship God despite the bad circumstances. For those who have experienced loss in the south-east, I want to personally say that we are praying for you and express our deepest sympathies for your loss.
