1. 2011 - Change Me

Well…it’s about that time in which everyone is guilty about all of the bad food they ate from November thru December.  And how everyone wants to shed a few pounds, and be more active in January.  Of course, I’ve gone thru the same thoughts, but I’ve reached a different outcome than in years previous.  I’m not going on a diet (low-carb, south-beach, weight watchers), or subscribing to a gym.  I’m changing - ME.

The way I see it is that until I change myself, I’ll gain the weight back and be saying the same thing in 2012.  Every day we’re faced with choices.  My goal this year is to choose the better/healthier/more active choice 90-95% of the time.  Sure I’d like to lose 2 lbs a month in 2011 resulting in 24 lbs total, but I’d rather say “Man, I feel great today, and I don’t feel winded.”

My big goal health-wise this year is to run a 5k (3.1 miles) race in under 30 minutes.  It’s a high goal, but I have to push myself.  I’m letting you know because I can’t hide once I let you know (there’s no going back).  Below are a few choices that we can make on a daily basis:

    • Fried OR baked?
    • Go outside and do something OR watch tv?
    • Have my quiet time OR get 30 more minutes of sleep?
    • Stay up watching every sports game OR go to bed at a reasonable time?
    • Call someone I haven’t talked to in a while OR listen to the radio?
    • Get on Facebook and Twitter OR spend time with my wife?
    • Love myself OR love others?
    • Tell someone about Jesus OR sit in silent normality

This isn’t a comprehensive list, but I encourage you to “Change Me” in 2011.  That way in Nov and Dec you can celebrate the 100s of little “wins” that you’ve had throughout the year.

Happy New Year and God Bless!
