1. Between Rests

God’s been teaching me a lot recently about space and silence.  It’s okay for there to be quiet moments in our life!  Realistically, how much time a day do we spend just sitting in complete silence?  I would think that for most of us (excluding sleep) we don’t intentionally choose to be silent on a daily basis.

I struggle with space and silence.  As Christians, how can we hear from God when don’t set out time for silence?  I think that we all need to accept the same advise that God gave Job - “Pay attention, O Job [Caleb], listen to me; be silent, and I will speak” (Job 33:31).

Musicians should practice space/silence as well.  Duke Ellington said “Music is what happens between the notes.”  Meaning, that true musicianship is how one uses rests.  There’s a reason that the word rest is used.  Another way to say it could be breathe

So my challenge to myself and to you is to intentionally set out time today, this week to be still in silence.  Start out small; say 5 minutes, then eventually try 15 minutes.  I promise you that it’ll be worth it!
